Illustration Friday: "Focused"

The topic this week for Illustration Friday is "Focused". I decided to draw some ants because I don't think anything in nature is more focused than ants, especially ants moving an apple. Enjoy.

Blaming the dog

Just experimenting again with a more loose approach. Nerdy girl as a baby.

Yucky

Here's an illustration with that same nerdy girl (I need to give her a name). This isn't for anything special, just wanted to draw something kinda gross and cute and the same time. Enjoy.

PROMO

This is a postcard that I want to send out soon. Do art directors and editors even look at postcards anymore? Anyways, the site www.harmonillustration.com is a pretty old site with old work on it. It needs to be tweeked a bit before I go sending this card out. Maybe I should have done that first. Oh well, whatever. Enjoy.

Illustration Friday: "Clumsy"

The topic for Illustration Friday this week is "Clumsy". A while back I was drawing a nerdy girl and thought that this topic fit nicely with this character. She's pretty clumsy. Enjoy.

Why Orange?

Last year my blog was a mostly a blue color. Also, it wasn't a really great year for my illustration career. So, I'm changing the color of my blog to orange which is the opposite of blue. Here's to a better year for everyone.

Just remember, we the consumers are the ones who change the direction of the economy.

Sissy music anyone?

So, it seems like the older I get ( I'm only 29) that the more sissy my music tastes get. In high school I used to listen to Metallica, AC/DC, Green Day and all that stuff. But now I really can't stand that stuff anymore. I'm becoming more and more attatched to the melow hits of yesteryear. Does everyone go through this?

I've heard this song before, 'Dancing in the Moonlight',and never really paid attention to it, but I heard it on the radio the other day and for some reason I just cranked it up and soaked it in. So, I had to go to iTunes and get it. I'm listening to it as I type this, but not as you read it.

Anyways, just a little random thought to end the day while my kids are asleep. Enjoy.

Logo Process

Everyone seems to be all about the process these days, so I'll go into the process of how I came about this logo. Here goes:

STEP 1: The client said that he wanted a cool looking, winged, hotrod, 80s hair band, telecom swoosh logo that didn't stand out too much from other telecom companies, but still didn't copy anyone. So (for me mostly) I drew all of that rolled into one giant monstrosity. As ridiculous as it looks, it actually helped me a LOT!

STEP 2: He was leaning more toward the hair band/hotrod direction, so I did some trimming. I cut out the fire, lightning, and swoosh. I changed the wings to be more metallic.

STEP 3: I trimmed and simplified some more giving it a more 'classic car' feel.

STEP 4: While trimming some more (loosing the letters in the middle) I realized that the telecom swoosh was gone and I needed to get it back. So, looking at the STEP 3 pic, I saw that I could take the middle circle and tweek it to become a telecom swoosh.

Now I had a telecom looking logo that still looked like a winged, hotrod, hair band logo if he wanted it to. So really, the final company logo is a simplified, sleeked down version of STEP 2.

STEP 5: Finished versions of STEP 2 (for him and his truck) and STEP 4 (for the company).

And there you have it. I hope that was helpful to somebody. I always like seeing the process of how things are done, but never really did it myself. But, things are gonna change from here on out. Enjoy.

Logo version 2

The manager of the the company below "Rimrock Telecom Services" wanted a different logo for himself. He wanted a Hotrod, Motorcycle, 80's hair band combo logo. So, this is what I came up with.

Graphic Design

Well, I profess to be an illustrator, but sometimes to pay the bills you need to do a little graphic design as well. So, here is a logo I did for a telecom company. It's a pretty simple design, but I think it's pretty cool. I got to sketch out ideas on paper first, so that was kinda like illustrating, right? This was a good paying job. The hard thing about being a freelance artist is that it pays good, but not often.
